Everybody perceived “Hacking” as the unlawful behavior of individual within the scope of their skills. An art that was sometimes harmful if not handled by the right person. Hacking is penetrating on ones privacy with intent of stealing data or destroying some information with it. On the other hand, hacking is not really what we think it is because there’s ethical hacking that is not harmful. There are different types of hacking in different categories:
- HACKTIVIST
- HOBBYIST
- RESEARCH AND SECURITY
Hacktivists – are hackers which is more concern on the political arena, through writing codes they promote political ideology and freedom of speech.
Hobbyist- is just a computer savvy that modifies hardware and software on its own computer. Hobbyists are types of hacker that modify old hardware or sometimes dangerous modification of hardware that suits their needs.
Research and Security – are ethical hackers that research different types of codes for security purposes, they keep on looking on loop holes and patch it in order to prevent computers for malicious attacks.
But how does hacking begins? According to a recorded evolution of hacking, in early 1960’s hackers begin breaking into mainframe computers and in 1983 was the first arrest of 6 teen-ages hackers in Milwaukee.
As time goes by, more and more hackers appears, as more and more individual learn the art of hacking and the programmed it uses.
As “crackers” multiply “counter force” of hackers or let me say “ethical hackers” also developed. These are the hackers who are more concern on the security rather than attacking potential victims.
So what is the main issue here? For me the value of a person is the main course, sometimes unintentionally discovered the possibility of penetrating on one network and computer. It was the reason sometimes that one became a hacker and tempted to do unlawful act. But it is in the value of a person to refrain in doing such activities.
Issues on legality of hacking sometimes must be tackled; some people legally hire hackers for several reasons. There are civil issues in connection to hacking and sometimes hackers do this kind of job for self satisfaction and self happiness. They really love seeing themselves successfully penetrate the system of some businesses or personal computers. They have a high level of curiosity that’s why they tend to go over every system, discover penetrating codes and creating hacking software. We just think of it as a way of disrespecting the privacy of individual, it turns out to be unethical values within themselves.
What is the best protection?
What are the possible actions left for us to do to counter hacking? We should consider the fact that being connected to a web means opening a door to all hackers. They are just looking a hole in your system and try to penetrate and see inside what they can do or steal. But, being aware on how the web works with us is our better chance to counter hacking. A strong firewall can be one of our protection, anti-malwares, anti-virus and any other third party software developed for the user’s protection. Being aware of secured websites to surf is also a way to avoid hackers, just try to avoid installing software used by hackers. Some of this software can be detected by all of anti-virus software, anti-spyware or any updated anti-malwares. Be sure to update all your protection software so as to detect new signatures that was daily released by hackers in the net.
There are over 30,000 viruses released every day, missing one signature means a possible intrusion from a hacker. Most common tools used by hackers are Trojan but nowadays this kind of software evolved and mutate in other form of program.
Proper Ethics
Most powerful tool to counter hacking is self realization on the part of hackers, respect to the rights of every individual, and contentment. Being able to keep ones values may result in an ethical hacking, hackers can still do their business in a more decent way. It is not bad to create program or use ones skill in a proper way. But whether we like it or not, hackers are hackers, and once given opportunity they will go over our data or destroy everything we worked for.
